What do you usually have for your homemade steam boat?

I usually have prawns, chicken fillets, beef, pork, dumplings, vermicilli, lettuce, fish balls, beef balls, etc....

How about soup base? I usually use chicken soup base. I like tom yum too...

I am drooling just thinking about it....

My mom would boil ikan bilis with soy beans to make the soup base...and we'll have the usual prawns, fish (lots of white pomfret), pork, liver, and 2 types of the fishy stuff ( " herr kiao " in teochew, and the other one wrapped around a strip of carrot and spring onion), fish balls, tang orh vegetable, etc. But we haven't had it at home for years coz it's too tiring for mom to prepare.

Your dumplings - are they the frozen ones? Like wantons? Smile

Quill eggs are very nice but I don't eat them anymore as I heard their cholesterol is very high.

For c0ckles, you can only put that in at the end if they are still in the shell. I love c0ckles. This is on my list (things I want to eat) when I visit Singapore during CNY.

I have never tried the ikan bilis with soy beans soup base before. may be one day I should.

I thought most Singaporeans have steamboat for CNY's eve. But I have to agree, it involves a lot of preparation. It usually takes me a while to slice/strip the meat and marinade them etc....

There's a steamboat restaurant about 15min drive from my place so I usually go and buy the frozen dumpling (Shui Jiao not wontons) from them. Very nice. Wink
